Coronavirus Update

What impact does the current situation have on us?

We are carrying on as normal this week as there tends to only be one or two customers in our shop at any one time. We intend to open on Friday and Saturday 9:00 – 13:00 unless we are advised otherwise so please do check the website before you come. Obviously please stay away if you have any symptoms!

We imagine this will be the last time we can open for a while so we have made sure that we have plenty of meat! It is all super fresh so please feel free to stock up your freezer for the coming weeks and message or ring us with any orders.

This week’s sausage flavours are: Traditional Pork, Pork and Leek, Black Pudding, Firecracker, French Herb and Garlic.

I am self isolating / do not want to come to the shop

We are happy to provide a free local delivery service to anyone who wants it. Either message us on here or ring 01204 303972 or 07969462211 (Jane) or 07702967480 (Martin). We can take payment by card over the phone for those of you not wishing to leave the house.

When will Asmus Farm Cottage shop reopen?

We simply do not know. These are worrying times and none of us knows what is going to happen.

We plan to carry on supplying The Village Store at the bottom of the lane and Milk Maids with bacon and sausages so you can buy from there when our shop is closed. We will also still carry out a delivery service if possible so please stay in touch and keep an eye on the website and Facebook. This all depends on the abattoir’s opening hours so please do bear with us at this difficult time.

Most of all friends, please look after yourselves and stay safe.

March Newsletter

What’s new on the farm?

Since our last newsletter we have had a few new litters of piglets! Congratulations to Mabel who gave birth to 10 beautiful Pedigree Gloucester Old Spots piglets during storm Ciara! Mabel is Rosie’s daughter, who is our first ever breeding sow from the Chatsworth House farm in Derbyshire. This is her 4th litter and she is proving to be just as good a mum as Rosie is. Ethel also farrowed last month and has some gorgeous Gloucester – Saddleback cross piglets. Some spotty, some striped and some plain black! Lots of straw and heat lamps needed in this cold and wet weather, although the pig arcs are surprisingly very warm inside.

Spring is just around the corner!

The chickens and ducks are liking the longer days – we are getting lots more eggs which is good news! It’s time to start thinking about sowing seeds in the polytunnel and getting ready for all that lovely fresh veg! We will hopefully be selling some through the shop so watch this space.

What’s new in the shop?

With our new bigger shop we have been able to showcase more cooked products such as our sticky glazed ham, home smoked salmon, pork liver pâté and our ever popular sausage rolls! These are now also available warm so no need to wait until you get home! We have sourced a few local products for you which are going down a storm; Holt’s lamb and Dexter beef (not every week so please contact us), local apple juice from Dunham Massey, Powell’s Pork Pies and we have some local honey hopefully coming very soon. Please do let us know if there is anything in particular you’d like to see in our shop and we will do our best to get it for you.

Out and about…

Our next farmers markets will be:

Sunday, 29th March 9:00 – 13:00 at Ashton – Under – Lyne

Sunday, 5th April at Abbey Leys near Knutsford. Please message us with any orders for these markets.

Other news

We are delighted to announce that as of Thursday this week, SAM’s shop at the bottom of our lane will be selling a range of our sausages! So you will be able to pick up a pack on your way home for a quick and delicious tea, even when we are not open up here. We are also supplying Milk Maids, at Dearden’s farm shop in Over Hulton with our sausages and bacon. This is a dairy farm who make the most delicious ice cream and we are hoping to stock some of that for you here too in the near future!

We will continue to open the shop 9:00 – 13:00 Fridays and Saturdays every week. Please do feel free to bring your own containers to save on plastic waste. Don’t forget if you would like a delivery then we are usually out and about on a Thursday evening so just give us a shout. Stay safe everyone.

Hope to see you soon,

New shop for the New Year!

A very Happy New Year from us all here at Asmus Farm Cottage and all the best for 2020!

We hope you all enjoyed your Christmas hams, pigs in blankets, sausage rolls, porchettas and all the trimmings.  It was lovely to think of just how many people were sitting down on Christmas Day to local, high welfare rare breed produce and we really hope it was delicious and you all had a wonderful time!

After a very busy run up to the festive season we took a few weeks break from butchering to concentrate on mending fences, building new pig arcs and general maintenance on the farm before opening the shop again at the end of the month. We also decided to extend the shop into the room next door, so we now have a great space with a bigger fridge and will be able to stock a few more products from time to time for your convenience, such as the lovely Dexter Beef some of you have already sampled and some locally reared lamb.

Introducing our new shop

The really good news is no more waiting in the cold or the rain; there is plenty of room for you now in the bigger shop!!

Asmus Farm Shop ready for business
This is our New Shop – come inside and see what’s on offer at Asmus Farm Cottage.

Shop is next open on Friday, 31st January and Saturday, 1st February 9:00 – 13:00. Why don’t you come along and see all the new space and pick up some of our new products.

What else is happening on the farm?

Back to reality on the farm, we have two sows in pig (Ethel and Rihanna) ready to give birth in the coming weeks. The hens are gradually starting to lay a few more eggs, which is fabulous news! And Martin is looking forward to the nights becoming gradually lighter as his working days are cut so short in the middle of winter. We will be rearing some meat chickens so watch this space and do get your name down if you would like one as we do a limited amount and they have proved very popular.

We’re out and about at events this month

Asmus Farm Cottage  Farmers Markets this month:

You can also order and have our products delivered to your door

We will continue to do local deliveries on a Thursday evening and open the shop on a WEEKLY basis until further notice – please check the website for details, place orders and sign up for deliveries.

We hope to see you all soon!
